Delete your account
You can delete your Diary account from inside the app. This page is for when you can't, for example if the app is no longer installed.
Deleting is permanent. Export first if you want a copy.
In the app, go to Settings → Export and choose JSON, Markdown or PDF. It is free. Once your account is deleted we cannot recover anything, because your entries are encrypted with a key we never had.
In the app (fastest)
- Open Diary.
- Go to Settings → Account.
- Choose “Delete the cloud copy” to remove your entries from our servers while your phone keeps everything, or “Delete your account” to remove everything, everywhere.
- Confirm.
Your data on the phone is removed immediately. Server data is removed within 30 days.
No access to the app anymore?
Email us from the address your account uses, with the subject “Delete my account”. We won't ask you why, and we won't try to talk you out of it. We will:
- Confirm receipt within 3 working days
- Check that the request came from the account's own email address
- Delete the account and all its data within 30 days
- Email you to confirm when it is done
What gets deleted
- Your account and email address
- All encrypted entries, photos and attachments
- All journals, tags and moods
- Your wrapped encryption keys
- All device sessions
What stays: a record of the deletion request itself, for 12 months, so we can show the request was honoured.
